Many insurance policies insist that your lock must comply with BS3621, but officially there is no ‘insurance approved’ lock. There are two different types of smart lock; the first fits over the existing turning cylinder on the inside of your door and works with your current cylinder and deadbolt. The second completely replaces your current lock.
If you want to add a smart lock to your existing lock it is best to consult one of our locksmiths to make sure that the smart lock you want is suitable. Most smart locks work with existing cylinders and deadbolts, but some only work with deadbolts and some may not be compatible with the type of lock you already have.
There are other things to consider as well. Your existing deadbolt should lock and unlock easily or the smart lock won’t work. Also, your new smart lock will always try to extend fully so the existing lock needs to fully extend into the jamb.
